Son Amar opened over 50 years ago, in the early days there was only a paella meal and the show was mainly flamenco and some magician stints. Over the years a larger variety of show acts have been developed and the cuisine has become more and more international. The change of ownership in 2007 made the greatest impact and especially during the last three years the standard has increased significantly with acts from all over the world performing. The artistic program is quite spectacular and this year’s theme is “High Energy”.

The new owners, Margaret Whittaker and her husband, who incidentally also runs the famous Mood Beach Club in Puerto Portals http://www.moodbeach.com/ is quoted in a local newspaper as saying that she wants Son Amar to be named in the same breath as the best shows in the world – a very ambitious undertaking which will certainly please the faithful guests, for whom a visit is always on the agenda during their holidays.

New in this year’s program is a very special “energy” loaded element: an LED dance in which one sees only the LED studded costumes of the otherwise black-clad dance ensembles. The director confirmed that this spectacular number required two years of development and it definitely has all the hallmarks of a Las Vegas show stopper!

It is obvious that the almost 40-strong troupe get on very well as notably the chemistry on and back-stage is extremely harmonious. The shows include acrobatics, a comical acrobatic part especially for the kids, fantastic displays of Irish Riverdance and Flamenco, where one solo dancer, called Rafael, regularly receives ovations for his amazing foot-technique and brilliant songs acts by a local, Mallorquin singer and a Blues, Mowtown, Funk and Rythme singer from Curaçao! The shows are very diverse and offer entertainment for all tastes.
