The Cathedral, green monumentality in Palma De Mallorca

We have recently met a new story that comes to confirm the sustainable and conservationist spirit that is promoted from the Balearic Islands.

The Cathedral of Palma de Mallorca has received the certification that ensures that the electrical energy it consumes comes entirely from renewable energy sources, which means that it is the first architectural monument of these features considered green or eco-friendly in Spain. The certification, issued by Axpo Iberia guarantees that the environmental impact of their carbon footprint is zero, which actively contributes to the fight against climate change. The Cathedral develops and promotes energy management policy in line with the concern about environmental problems and consequences of climate change providing an energy management system based on the UNE-EN ISO 50001: 2011 certificate by Aenor, which optimizes the management of energy consumption while also reducing emissions of greenhouse effect gases.

Historical-artistic declared in 1931, the monument has Gothic Europe’s largest rose window. The second tallest Gothic cathedral in Europe is also called “the cathedral of light” and receives nearly 900,000 visits annually, being the most visited monument in the Balearic Islands and one of the best known and best valued in Spain tens. Around it is the coveted neighborhood of La Calatrava-Dalt Murada, formed by palaces and manor houses restored and modernized that are located on either side of the close and quiet streets in the area. The Calatrava is one of the most beautiful neighborhoods in the city, delimited by the area Montesión, the Union streets and Foners and the port area of Palma and in it you can enjoy magical places like the Gothic temple of Sant Francesc, the heart of the Jewish Quarter the baroque church of Montisión or the Museum of Mallorca. It offers fully alternative trade route where you can find everything from small shops with exclusive products, traditional bars and bakeries that offer typical products like coca vegetable or mythical llonguets to the Boutique Hotel Calatrava  located above the old wall of the city, offering spectacular views over the bay of Palma and the sea and stands out for its charm and unique character.
