The origins of this event date back to 1982, when the National Association of Cruise organized with the Real Club Nautico de Palma the first edition of a regatta open to all classes on corrected time. The relevance of that first edition was such that the following year appeared in the bay of Palma spectacular Maxis. In just fifteen years the race of the Real Club Nautico de Palma reached the highest plane of sailing competition, not only for the number of participants but also for its quality.

The Copa del Rey, organized by the Real Club Nautico de Palma next to the Royal Spanish Sailing Federation, is completed with a strong social agenda that there will be gastronomic events, parties for sailors, traditional ‘Dinner of Ship Owners’ and delivery awards on 6 August in Ses Voltes, which will be chaired by king Felipe VI. The Copa del Rey is a benchmark for the Mallorcan society and it is expected that this year is the best of those held to date.
